Today I went to the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Elysees in Paris. It was a cold blustery day, and reminded me of Seattle! I did a little shopping along the famous Champs Elysee, and had a nice British lady offer if she could take my picture in front of the Arch. I don't know how, but she somehow knew I'd understand her English. I have been asked for directions from French people five times already, so I thought I was blending in well, but I guess not! I am getting good at the shoulder shrug when people ask me for directions, maybe it's because I've always got a map nearby, even though I try and conceal it!
After my Paris excursions I set off for the Chunnel, where I met a nice Minnesota family in the station. Funny, the last time I was here I didn't pay any attention to other Americans, but this time without Em I cling to any friendly American accent I can. I went under the English Channel via the chunnel, pretty amazing! It was raining on the English side, and right above a bucolic agricultural scene was a beautiful rainbow, a real treat, and I took it as a good omen!
My Couch Surfing hosts are amazing, on of them met me at the train station so I didn't have to figure out how to get to her place, then we hung out in a pub in on of their U districts, and then we went to a taping of a BBC comedy/trivia show, which was a hoot. These British sure have a sardonic wit, I would fit right in! hahah.
Now I'm back at their house and using their computer for free! what luck. I'll try and upload some pics tomorrow, for now it's off to bed so I can be off tomorrow to explore more of this historic city!
